News: Artefacts of Relations wānanga

The Artefacts of Relations: Building in Te Moananui wānanga was held at Piritahi marae from 28-30 March 2025.

The wānanga was a special opportunity to gather in the beautiful wharenui, Kia Piritahi. This was our third meeting; the 2023 and 2024 workshop sessions were convened through ASAO, in Kona and then AUT. Contributors discussed the ongoing development of their papers in three panel sessions: contemporary architecture for Māori & Moananui communities; cross-cultural architecture in the transitional period; persistence of the traditional artefact. We are incredibly grateful to have shared this time together at Piritahi.

Session 1: Albert Refiti (chair), Fleur Palmer, Anthony Hoete, Sean Connelly, Rau Hoskins.
Session 2: Rau Hoskins (chair), Tina Engels-Schwarzpaul, Mike Austin, Charmaine ʻIlaiu Talei, Billie Lythberg, Christoph Schnoor.
Session 3: Billie Lythberg (chair), Hūganga Ōkusitino Māhina & Semisi Potauaine, Iʻuogafa Tuagalu.
