News: research trip to Hawaiʻi

The Artefacts of Relations team travelled to Hawaiʻi for our research.

In November, Principal Investigators of the Artefacts of Relations project, Albert L. Refiti and Rau Hoskins, along with researcher/videographer Emily Parr, travelled to Oʻahu. We were lucky to see elements of the Kaneʻohe ahupuaʻa in action during our visit to the loʻi restored by Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi and the Paepae o Heʻeia fishponds. Alexander Mawyer at the Center for Pacific Islands Studies (UH Mānoa) hosted us for a talanoa about our research, and it was a pleasure to reconnect with friendly faces and engage with new ones. We recorded interviews with Lilikalā Kameʻeleihiwa, Francis Palani Sineci, Saʻiliemanu Lilomaiava-Doktor, Vilsoni Hereniko, and Ty P. Kāwika Tengan, for both the Artefacts of Relations and the Vā Moana projects. We look forward to sharing their kōrero.
