Vā Moana Reading Group August 2021

Kia ora koutou,

Our next reading group will be on Wednesday the 4th of August at St Paul Street Gallery (AUT). Having read an essay by Natalie Robertson in June, we will hold our next talanoa within her exhibition, 'Tātara e Maru Ana – The Sacred Rain Cape of Waiapu'. Natalie's stunning works emerged through her recently completed PhD and we can't wait for you all to spend some time with them.

We will continue reading The Woven Universe alongside two other texts:

  • Te Ahukaramū Charles Royal, Kaitiakitanga: A Definitive Introduction to the Holistic World View of the Māori. In The Woven Universe: Selected Writings of Rev. Māori Marsden (2003).
  • Epeli Hau'ofa, Our Sea of Islands (1993).
  • A short video extracted from a speech by Haunani-Kay Trask, whose recent passing we would like to acknowledge.

The reading group will be held on Wednesday 04 August, 1.30-4.00pm at St Paul Street Gallery (AUT). The Gallery is visible from the street front, but we will meet you in the foyer of WM building. You are also welcome to join us via Zoom.

This is open to Vā Moana affiliates and candidates, Māori and Pacific postgraduate students, as well as extended 'āiga and those in their final year of their undergraduate degrees. Please RSVP to autpacificspaces@gmail.com.

Warmly,

Emily Parr & Arielle Walker
